My dad taught me that selling your time to a large, uncaring corporation isn't a wise decision. Selling your time yourself as an independent business owner isn't any better use of your time if you don't learn the business. He was very clear, you don't have to know the business very well in advance but if don't have the capacity and burning desire to learn it quickly and well, you're better off going to work for that corporation. Being independent carries with it more responsibilities than being an employee. You have to know the business better than any of your employees and competitors. then you have to market it more effectively than anyone else.
